Cahokia Mounds

Thursday we went exploring to a place called Cahokia. It is an ancient city. They were a thriving people and then suddenly they disappeared. (Think Book of Mormon.) It was very large in prime. This mound is all man-made and the Chief lived atop it. We climbed the entire thing! The kids climbed it by themselves too! (Porter only had a little help.) Pretty cool! Amazing view of the city from there.

In fact, I think Porter had a pretty good time. He was doing his favorite thing: Running around outside.

This is only the first set of stairs. The second one is just as long if not longer!

After climbing the mound we drove across the road to the museum. Very cool! It showed how the people lived and how they excavated the area. I am really glad we checked this out! And it is just across the river from the Arch. Who knew? Just the first of what is hopefully many mini-trips around the area before we leave.
